In God's Timing
By Stacy Book
I did a lot of babysitting through my teenage years and into my early 20's. As a teenager, I would always go
to their house to watch them. After I got married, I watched them at my house. I babysitted so many kids, its hard to keep
count. As I get older, I see kids I use to babysit that are graduating and even getting married. I'm always telling my
kids when we look at yearbooks or if they mention a friend, I'll say, Oh, I use to babysit them. I've got pictures
of you all. Do you want to see them? Out of all the children I babysitted, there were a few that
were very special to me. I guess because I kept them for a long time and they were the same age as my kids and they grew up
together.
One of those kids was a little boy named Josh. I knew some of his family from church.
I didn't know his mom very well at the time. They were needing a babysitter, so my friend, which is family to them, told
her I babysitted. So I started watching him and got to know his mom better. She was very nice. I really enjoyed talking to
her. She worked a lot of hours at her job, so I kept Josh all the time. He just came part of the family. I told them I'll
just be his second mom. I loved him and enjoyed watching him. He was always very good for me. He was so bashful, he wouldn't
even eat my food. His mom had to bring it. After a while though, he started eating some of my food, but not all the time.
My son and him played pretty well good together. They fought some, but most of the time they got along. They were so funny.
They kept you laughing.
During the time I watched him, his mom and dad got divorced. They weren't
going to church. I already had been praying for them for several years. I prayed they would get back in church and that his
mom would come to know the Lord and that everything would work out for them.
After several years,
they moved and the kids went to different schools and I did'nt watch him anymore. We went for a long time without seeing
or talking to them. I wasn't getting any answers. I didn't know if I would even see them again. Should I quit praying
for them? I didn't even know how to reach them.
2 Peter 3:9 says, The Lord is not slow in
keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come
to repentance.
So time went on. I kept praying. James 1:6 says, But when he asks, he must believe
and not doubt.
I prayed for about 8 years. Then one day, something happened. I was at the vet
and guess who I seen? Josh's grandma. We talked and I found out that Josh's mom was remarried and expecting another
child. She also told me they were moving. Guess where they were moving to? They were moving about 5 miles from my house. So
I got her number and called her. I was so happy. After they moved and she had the baby, I went to visit. I started talking
to her more and we became better friends. As of today, we consider each other "best" friends. I even got to babysit
her little girl a lot. She is 8 years old now.
At the time when they moved, we were going to church
down the road where we lived. Of course, what did I do? I started inviting her and her family. It took a little while, but
one Sunday, they surprised me. They came to church. I was so happy to see them. One night on visitation, our pastor visited
them. He called us later that night and told us that not only my friend, but also her husband, accepted Jesus as their Lord
and Savior. They both were saved. PRAISE THE LORD! What could be more exciting than that. My prayer was answered. Psalm 17:6
says, I call on you, O God, for you will answer me, give ear to me and hear my prayer.` Soon after that, they were baptized.
They starting serving the Lord by working with the children. They helped with Bible School and many other things. The kids
loved them.
It's been over 8 years now since they moved. Our families get together every now
and then. We eat and play games. Our boys are 18 years old now. My best friend and I have a prayer time at the same time everyday
where we pray for our families. It's been really neat seeing how God has worked through the years. I pray we will always
be best friends and that we will always keep God first in everything we do. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first his kingdom
and his righteousness, and all these thing will be given to you as well.
