Cleaning for the Lord

I would like to share with you a little bit about my job, but first, let me go back 18 years ago in 1990- the year I graduated.  After I graduated, I went to Henderson Community College for 2 years.  I got a degree in Office Administration.  During those 2 years, I worked in a few offices for my co-op.  As I co-oped during those couple of years, I realized it was not what I wanted to do.  I like to type, but as far as the rest of it-it was just not for me.  I also babysat and cleaned houses.  I babysat from the time I was 13 until about 6 years ago.  Cleaning houses, well, I've been doing that ever since.  That's what I like to do.  I started out with a few and I got more as I went along.  At one point, though, I got discouraged because I felt like I needed more houses to clean.  I didn't even know for sure if that's what God wanted me to do.  I started praying about it.  I kept passing the word around so people would know, but I wasn't getting any responses.  After a while, I decided to call a cleaning service.  I thought if I worked through them, I could count on having work.  I knew working for myself, I would make more money and I could have my own schedule, but I needed to do something.  I called and told them I would get back with them.  I still kept praying, asking God to show me what to do.  A few days later, my mom called and told me a friend of hers called and asked her if she needed anymore houses to clean-my mom cleans, too.  She was full, but she told her about me.  Three teachers that she worked with all had the same cleaner and she just quit all of them.  God answered my prayer.  God provided not just one house- but three all in the same day, so that's what I've been doing ever since.  I haven't felt God call me to do anything else. When I lose a house, God always provides me with another one.  I clean a law office, houses, and the church I attend.  My schedule gives me time to do other things God has called me to do.  I stay busy at home and with my family.  I do a lot of different things at church -different types of outreach ministries- which I will share about later.  Cleaning houses can be hard work, but I try to think about this- Work as if the Lord were your boss.  Whatever your job is -keep this in mind.  It can make all the difference.  Colossians 3:23 says, Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.
