Life's Storms
BY STACY BOOK
The ice storm that hit us here in Kentucky left all of us
with a story. It hit us all in different ways. Some people never lost their power, some lost it for a few
days, some lost it for weeks. My family was without power for 5 days. We live next door
to my in-laws and my sister-in-law and her family live on the other side of them. Thankfully, my in-laws
had a generator and we had plenty of gas, food, water and all that we needed to survive the storm. It was
inconvienent at times, with 9 people in the house, it can be stressful, especially with three teenagers, who didn't think
they were going to make it without their cell phones, but we survived, with God's help. There were
many families who had it a lot worse than us. My in-laws took care of us. They made
sure we were all warm and had food to eat. One night, the heater quit working. My father-in-law
and husband worked on it for a couple of hours. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.
While they were working on it, my mother-in-law and I prayed and kept praying. We were all standing
there not knowing what else to do. Next thing you know, the heat came back on. God answered
our prayer. Everything failed that they tried to do, but God didn't fail. He never
fails. Some of us also had family devotions at night and prayed together, something we all need to take
time to do everyday, not just in a storm. Distractions from everyday life a lot of times, keeps us from
doing what's most important- spending time with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God has his ways of slowing us down and helping us focus on Him and showing us how much He has truly blessed us in
this country. We take so much for granted. You don't realize sometimes how much
you have until you have lost it. We may not always have electrical power, but we will ALWAYS have GODS
POWER to help us through any problem we face, and that makes all the difference.
When storms come in your life, whether its a natural disaster, loss of a job, death of a loved one, whatever it may
be, put all your trust in the Lord, not anyone or anything else. He's the one who gives us the strength
to get through each day.
Thanks to all the utility workers who worked so
hard to get everyone's power back on. I know God gave them extra strength and energy to get the job
done. God uses people to help others and he always brings good out of a bad situation.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power
His understanding has no limit.

Him for his surpassing greatness. Psalm 150:2
